The latest update comes after beneficiaries from several institutions began sharing payment alerts for the August upkeep, including students whose institutions are currently on academic break.

August Upkeep Continues

Updates circulated yesterday indicated that the August upkeep disbursement would continue today, with a significant number of remaining batches expected to be processed.

The development is particularly important for students who had been concerned that being on academic break could prevent them from receiving the August allowance.

Recent beneficiary payment alerts have already confirmed ₦20,000 August upkeep credits to students from several institutions, including FUTMINNA, Osun State Polytechnic, Rivers State University, FUHSI, and other institutions.

The payments are being made in batches, meaning eligible beneficiaries may not receive their alerts at exactly the same time.

What About FUTO Students?

For beneficiaries at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), the wait continues.

As of the time of publishing this update, FUTO students have not yet received confirmed August NELFUND upkeep credits.

However, with the disbursement continuing today and institutions on academic break now reportedly confirmed to remain within the payment process, there is renewed hope that FUTO beneficiaries could begin receiving their alerts soon.

Students should therefore continue monitoring their bank accounts and remain patient as the batches are processed.

School Break Should Not Mean Missing August Payment

The latest update is particularly significant because of earlier concerns surrounding institutions that were not actively in session at the time of payment.

The current information indicates that eligible beneficiaries whose institutions are currently on break are also expected to receive the August upkeep payment.

This means students should not assume that being on holiday automatically means they have been excluded from the August disbursement.

However, payment remains subject to beneficiary eligibility, institutional records and NELFUND's processing.

₦20,000 August Upkeep

The NELFUND upkeep component remains a monthly support payment for eligible beneficiaries who applied for the upkeep component of the student loan.

NELFUND's Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, recently disclosed that the Fund spends about ₦16 billion every month on student upkeep, highlighting the scale of the programme.

The latest NELFUND disbursement figures also show that the agency has continued to make substantial payments to students and institutions. As of September 3, 2026, NELFUND had disbursed ₦355.87 billion since the launch of its student loan portal, including ₦162.98 billion in upkeep allowances.

FUTO Students, Stay Tuned

For FUTO beneficiaries, August upkeep has not been confirmed as received yet.

But with the disbursement continuing today and students from institutions on break reportedly included in the ongoing payment process, there is hope that FUTO beneficiaries may begin seeing their ₦20,000 alerts as the next batches are processed.

Students are advised to:

  • Ensure their account details remain accessible.
