The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has begun gradually restoring access to its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), following a technical disruption that affected candidates' ability to access the platform since last week.
The "Access My CAPS" option is now reportedly working again for some candidates, allowing them to resume checking their admission-related information, including their admission status.
What Caused the Disruption
The outage, which began around Wednesday, September 24, 2026, prevented candidates, institutions and other users from accessing CAPS at a critical stage of the ongoing 2026 admission exercise. In a statement issued shortly after the disruption began, JAMB attributed the outage to technical challenges connected to the hosting arrangements for the CAPS platform, noting that it had commenced discussions with the hosting organisation to identify and resolve the problem.
The Board apologised for the inconvenience caused and acknowledged the sensitivity of the timing, given that CAPS is the central platform through which admissions into tertiary institutions nationwide are processed, including viewing admission offers and accepting or rejecting them.
The disruption struck at a particularly critical point in the 2026 admission cycle, with institutions actively processing admission offers and candidates expected to regularly monitor their CAPS profiles to accept offers within stipulated timeframes. For many candidates, the inability to access the platform heightened anxiety, especially those awaiting confirmation of admission or trying to complete acceptance steps.
Access Now Being Restored
Following days of engagement between JAMB and the platform's hosting organisation, access to CAPS is now being gradually restored. Candidates can begin checking their admission-related information again, including confirming their admission status.
However, JAMB has cautioned that the restoration is not instant across board, meaning some candidates may still experience delays in accessing the platform as the process continues to roll out.
What Candidates Should Do
Candidates are advised to take note of the following as CAPS access continues to be restored:
- If your CAPS is now accessible, you can proceed to check your admission status and complete any pending admission-related actions.
- If your CAPS is still unavailable, don't panic — access is being restored gradually, and you are advised to try again later.
- Continue monitoring your portal regularly for updates on your admission status.
- Avoid relying on unofficial sources or rumours claiming changes to your admission status during the period of disruption.
- Report persistent access issues through official JAMB channels rather than third-party platforms.
This is not the first time CAPS has experienced technical difficulties during periods of intense admission activity, as the platform has previously faced issues such as slow loading and access delays when usage peaks. Following the resolution of the current disruption, JAMB has indicated it will review the circumstances surrounding the outage and consider measures to prevent similar interruptions in the future.
Candidates are advised to remain patient, keep checking their CAPS profiles periodically, and rely only on official JAMB communication for updates on the platform's status.
