The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has been officially inaugurated, marking the commencement of the 28th legislative house under the Students' Union Government.

The inauguration took place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, according to the FUTO SUG Directorate of Information and Public Relations.

The development ushers in a new chapter for student representation, with members of the newly constituted council assuming their responsibilities as representatives of the FUTO student community.

Software Engineering MSRC Emerges Speaker

A significant development from the inauguration was the emergence of the Software Engineering MSRC as the Speaker of the 28th SRC.

The Speaker will preside over the activities of the legislative arm of the Students' Union Government as the council begins its tenure.

The new legislative house is expected to provide a platform for student representatives to deliberate on issues affecting students, represent the interests of their respective constituencies and contribute to the development of the student community.

A New Chapter in Student Representation

The inauguration of the 28th SRC comes shortly after the inauguration of the new SUG Executive, led by H.E. High Comr. Obasi Rashford Richmond.

With both the executive and legislative arms now constituted, the new SUG administration has its major structures in place to begin its work of representation and service.

The SRC remains an important part of student governance, providing representation across the university and serving as a legislative platform within the Students' Union Government.

Renewed Commitment to Service

The inauguration marks more than the beginning of another legislative tenure. It also comes with renewed expectations from students who will look to their representatives to effectively communicate their concerns and participate actively in decisions affecting the student body.

Members of the 28th SRC will be expected to carry out their responsibilities with accountability, purposeful representation and commitment to the interests of the students they represent.

As the council begins its work, its deliberations and activities will form an important part of the new administration's tenure.

A New Legislative Chapter

The inauguration of the 28th SRC officially opens a new chapter in FUTO student leadership.

With the Speaker now emerged and the council inaugurated, attention will shift to the legislative activities ahead and how the new representatives will contribute to student governance.

The new SRC begins its tenure with the responsibility of representing the voices and interests of FUTO students.

A new legislative house. A renewed commitment to service.
