A 300-Level Mechatronics Engineering student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Ejibe Nmachukwu Genevieve, has emerged South-East Champion and secured Third Place Nationally at the 2026 CODET Engineering Students' Project Competition, organised by the Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET).
The competition, held under the 9th National Engineering Students' Project Competition 2026, brought together engineering students from universities across the country to showcase innovative, real-world engineering solutions before a panel of judges.
The Winning Project
Genevieve's project centred on the Design and Development of a Real-Time Environmental Monitoring System, built to detect dangerous gas emissions by combining IoT (Internet of Things), embedded systems, and software technology.

The innovation was designed to provide real-time environmental data, offering a practical engineering solution to the growing concern around gas emission detection and environmental safety monitoring.
Recognition at the National Level
Following her presentation at the competition, Genevieve was awarded a Certificate of Achievement, recognising her as the recipient of the Third Position in the category of the 2026 CODET Students' Single Projects, dated 14th of July, 2026.

Overcoming Challenges to Shine
According to reports, Genevieve faced challenges during her presentation, but despite the setbacks, she successfully demonstrated her innovation before the judges and went on to secure a place on the national podium.
Her resilience under pressure is being highlighted as part of what makes her achievement particularly commendable, reflecting not just technical skill but composure and determination.

A Proud Moment for FUTO
Genevieve's performance at the competition stands as a proud achievement for FUTO, reflecting the university's continued pursuit of excellence in engineering education and innovation.
Her success also highlights the strength of FUTO's Mechatronics Engineering programme, under the School of Electrical Systems and Engineering Technology (SESET), and the quality of practical, solution-driven projects being developed by its students.
Competitions like the CODET National Engineering Students' Project Competition provide a platform for engineering students across Nigerian universities to showcase innovation that addresses real-world problems, while also fostering healthy competition and exposure among the country's brightest young engineering minds.
Genevieve's recognition at both the South-East zonal level and national level places FUTO firmly on the map as a hub of impactful student-led engineering innovation.
FUTO Central congratulates Ejibe Nmachukwu Genevieve on this remarkable achievement and looks forward to more students representing the university on national and international platforms.
