A 300-level Architecture student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, while heading back to his lodge in Eziobodo.
The incident occurred around the FUTO Roundabout, with students once again being urged to exercise caution while moving around the area.

What Happened
According to the victim, he was returning from repairing his phone when he was cornered by three armed men near the roundabout and ordered to empty his pockets.
When he attempted to reason with the suspects, one of them reportedly turned to an accomplice referred to as their "capon" to ask whether he should shoot the victim.
Fearing for his life, the student complied and handed over his phones. The suspects subsequently fled the scene, leaving him unharmed.
Victim Safe, No Injuries Reported
The student sustained no physical injuries and was able to return safely after the encounter. Only his phones were taken in the incident.
Students Urged to Stay Alert
Following the report, students have been advised to:
- Remain vigilant, particularly when moving through isolated or poorly lit areas.
- Avoid unnecessary movement late at night or during odd hours.
- Prioritize personal safety over valuables if confronted by armed individuals.
- Report any suspicious activity around the FUTO Roundabout and surrounding areas to appropriate security channels.
Students are encouraged to stay alert and report any similar incidents promptly to help improve safety around the campus environment.
